BACKGROUND:
In 1797, Louis Nicolas Vauquelin received crocoite ore, with which he could produce chromium oxide. In 1798, he discovered detectable traces of chromium in gemstones. Later, he successfully isolated elemental chromium. In the 1800's, chromium was used in paints and tanning salts. Currently, eighty-five percent of chromium is used in metal alloying.

CHROMIUM POWDER APPLICATIONS:
When exposed to oxygen, chromium is passivated, forming a thin protective oxide layer. This surface layer prevents oxygen from diffusing into the underlying layer. These properties are great for many uses, including coatings and platings, polish, dyes, paints and much more. Some of the major applications include:

Metallurgy
Chromium provides a shiny finish with corrosion resistance. It is commonly used in cutlery, chrome plating, and in anondized aluminum.

Dye and Paint
Chromium is used as an emerald green glass colorant in glass making. It is used in production of synthetic rubies, and it is also used in yellow paint.
