BACKGROUND:
Cupric oxide, as a mineral, is known as tenorite, a black crystal. It is an irritant that can cause damage to the endocrine and central nervous system.

CUPRIC OXIDE POWDER APPLICATIONS:
Cupric oxide is used in making pigments, fibers and ceramics. It is also used for gas analyses and Welding fluxes. Some of the major applications include:

Metallic Pigments
When used as a pigment, cupric oxide produces blue, red, green, gray, pink or black glazes.

Fibers
Cupric oxide is used to make cuprammonium hydroxide solutions, which are used in the production of rayon fibers and fabrics.

Abrasive
It is used as an abrasive for polishing optical equipment.

Battieries
Cupric oxide can be used in dry cell batteries. It can also be used in wet cell batteries as the cathode.

Thermite
Cupric oxide can be used as a substitute for iron oxide in thermite. Thermite can turn into a low explosive from a low incendiary.
