BACKGROUND:
Germanium dioxide is an inorganic compound. When in contact with atmospheric oxygen, a passivation layer forms on pure germanium.

GERMANIUM DIOXIDE POWDER APPLICATIONS:
Germanium dioxide's refractive index of 1.7 is higher than that of glass. It is useful for use as a material in optical microscope lenses. It can also be used in optical fibers and wavelengths. Germanium dioxide can also be used as a catalyst. Some of the major applications include:

Optical Material
Germanium dioxide's optical dispersion properties make it a good optical material for wide angle lenses and optical microscope objective lenses.

Optical Fibers and Wavelengths
Germanium dioxide and silica are mixed to create an optical material for optical fibers and optical wavelengths. These mixed materials have a higher refractive index and lower viscosity.

Catalyst
Germanium dioxide can be used as a catalyst. In the production of polyethylene terephthalate resin, it is used for production of select phosphors and semiconductor materials.
