BACKGROUND:
Molybdenum disilicide is a gray metallic looking mineral. It is insoluble in acids, however soluble in nitric or hydrofluoric acids. At high temperatures, it forms a layer of silicon dioxide that protects it from further oxidation.

MOLYBDENUM DISILICIDE POWDER APPLICATIONS:
Molybdenum disilicide is a refractory ceramic that is also electrically conductive. Some of the major applications include:

Heating Elements
Heating elements made from molybdenum disilicide can be used for temperatures up to 1800 °C. In atmospheres with low oxygen, the maximum operating temperature is lowered because the passivation layer will break down.
