Calcium carbonate is a white, odorloess powder that is practically insoluble in water. It is noncombustible. Calcium carbonate is the source of lime; and is often used as a neutralizing agent, filler or extender in rubbers, plastics or paints and as an opacifying agent in paper. It can also be used to manufacture portland cement or remove sulfur dioxide from stack gases. Calcium Carbonate sees widespread usage in analytical chemistry.
