Cerium oxide (a.k.a. ceric oxide) is a pale-yellow, heavy powder. It is noncombustible, soluble in sulfuric acid and insoluble in water and dilute acid. Cerium oxide is often used in ceramics, as an abrasive for glass polishing, and radiation shielding, among many other uses.
