Silicon tetraboride (SiB4) is a lightweight ceramic compound. It is electrically conductive, and has a low coefficient of thermal expansion. The NASA space shuttles had a coating of silicon tetraboride for use as a heat shield. It can be used as an abrasive, as well as a formed ceramic for use in gas turbines.
