Zirconium is a shiny gray - white transition metal. It is mainly used as a refractory, opacifier and alloying agent. Zirconium is used in high-temperature applications, and offers a strong resistance to corrosion. It produces a white opaque appearance to ceramic materials, and offers good chemical resistance.
